Sedation Dentistry

Have you been forgoing needed dental care due to fear of the dentist? At Family First Dental, we can change that. We are pleased to offer sedation dentistry as part of our commitment to provide a comfortable, stress-free dental experience. Sedation dentistry allows many patients to get the dental treatments they need and deserve, from root canals to crowns, deep cleanings to implants, extractions to fillings. Our sedation dentistry methods enable us to accommodate both child and adults with mild to moderate dental phobia. Through nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation, you can be mildly sedated or even sleep through their procedures.

Nitrous Oxide

Family First Dental is also a licensed provider of nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas.” This mild form of sedation is administered through a small nosepiece or mask. By breathing in this combination of nitrous oxide gas and oxygen, patients can achieve a desired level of relaxation during their procedure and still communicate with the dentist if necessary. Nitrous oxide is a very popular method of sedation, as its effects wear off quickly with no lingering side effects. In fact, it is safe for kids and patients can drive themselves home after their visit. Whether you are getting your teeth cleaned or a root canal done, nitrous oxide can be a simple means to help you relax while your treatment is provided.

Conscious Oral Sedation

Oral conscious sedation involves no needles and no facemasks, just a simple sedative pill taken about one hour before your appointment. This type of sedation can significantly relieve your anxiety while allowing you to remain conscious throughout your procedure. Oral conscious sedation can be a very convenient option for many patients, but it does require that you bring someone to drive you home after your appointment. Using pill sedatives, patients typically retain little to no memory of the procedure. This temporary amnesia is a welcome side effect for many patients who struggle with dental fear.

Severe Gag Reflex

If the thought of sitting in the dental chair makes your heart race or your child suffers from a sensitive gag reflux, consider sedation dentistry at Family First Dental. Our ability to provide this care allows our dentists accomplish more in fewer visits, and rarely do patients have to go to another office for treatment. Often, our patients can have their mouths restored to health and beauty in as few as two to three visits!
